"Amparito fantasizes about the return of her son, Miguel Angel, who left home years earlier to travel around the world as a sailor. She has left his room intact with all of his personal effects. Leticia, a young colleague who shares the apartment, becomes progressively invested in Amparito's obsession. The freedom of Miguel Angel's idealized wandering contrasts with the drudgery of the clerical jobs held by these two women. One night, while Amparito lies ill in a hospital, Miguel Angel returns unexpectedly and spends the night with Leticia. A group of drunken sailors destroy the apartment and leave town, taking Miguel Angel with them. The film concludes with the image of a wave flooding the apartment and floating the objects and furniture out to sea"--The Mexican Cinema Project, 1994.
